On the share the name of the city is written with a w at the end. Ekaterinoslav, also known as Katerinoslav, Catherinoslav, or Yekaterinoslav, means "the glory of Catherine", referring to Empress Catherine the Great. This - at one time - 3rd largest city in Russia, after Moskow and St. Persburg, was founded in 1776 in what is now Oekraïne. In 1926 the name was changed to Dnepropetrovsk. It is a major city along de Djnepper river, with heavy industry, in Oekraïne.
Dnepropetrovsk was named after communist leader Grigory Petrovsky. As communist propaganda is forbidden by law since May 2015, the name of the city will be changed soon as well as all other places and streets the names of which refer to communist leaders.
Donetz was one of the 14 districts of the "Province" of Ekaterinoslav and also the name of a large city. The Donetz is a river (= smaller river Don) that ran through Donetz, I don't know why the factory was called Donetz as Donetz and Ekaterinoslav are located far apart. Perhaps it was a way of acknowledging that the steel industry was made posiible by the finding -in the late 19th century - of the Donetsk coal deposits and the Krivoy Rog iron ore, in an area called the Donetsk Basin. Anno 2015 these areas seek independance from or within Oekraïne. Dnepropetrovsk was "the closed rocket city" , unaccessable for foreighners from 1959 until 1987: it was the city where the Sovjet Union's ballistic missiles, rocket engines and the space industry flourished in secrecy.

Helaas schijnen de meeste gelopen stukken in 2003 te zijn vernietigd, op een zeer beperkt aantal na; een iets groter aantal reservestukken (blankettes) zijn bewaard gebleven..

Draka werd in 1910 opgericht onder de naam Hollandsche Draad en Kabelfabrieken. In 1970 werd het onderdeel van Philips onder de naam Draka Kabel. In 1986 werd het weer afgesplitst van Philips en ging men zelfstandig verder onder de naam Draka Holding. (Andere delen werden door Philips verkocht aan Solvay en bestaan nog steeds onder de namen Alkor Draka en Draka Interfoam (nu onderdeel van het Britse bedrijf Vita) In 2011 werd Draka Holding overgenomen door de Italiaans kabelfabriek Prysmian en ontstond zo de Prysmian Group, genoteerd aan de beurs van Milaan. De DRAKA-fabrieken in Amsterdam-Noord waren gelegen op een ca. 4 ha. groot industrie-terrein aan de noordelijke IJ-oevers, schuin tegenover het Centraal Station. In 2016 zijn de produktie-werkzaamheden verhuisd naar Emmen. Nu (anno 2017) is het een van de meest felbegeerde stukken grond in de stad, waar wel 1400 huizen zouden kunnen komen (bron: Eva Rooijers in Het Finnancieel Dagblad, 30-1-2017, p 11). Het terrein werd anno 1930 al afgebeeld op hun briefpapier, later ook in bv. 1946 en 1954. Die laatste laat al weer een uitbreiding zien t.o.v. een luchtfoto uit ca. 1950 ten behoeve van een artikel in het Nederlandsch Economisch Cultureel Archief.

Anno 2021 begint de politiek zich eindelijk te bemoeien met de ziekmakende luchtvervuiling die bewoners van de directe en wijdere omgeving, zoals b.v. het kustplaatsje Wijk aan Zee, moeten verduren. Anderzijds is men wel blij met de werkgelegenheid voor ca. 5000 werknemers en de verdere uitstraling daarvan op de economie in dit gebied.

Vignette: 5 by 5 cm. engraving of  the allegorical figure Virtus (Virtue) in harness, holding a sword and a spear in her hands and treading down  the allegorical Tyranny, his crown fallen from his head; a broken chain and sword lying next to him. Text: "SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS" (Engl.: Thus Always to Tyrants; NL.: Zo gaat het tirannen altijd), according to Bob Kerstein (www.Bob.com) the motto of the state of Virginia, wheras this allegorical figure of Virtue is representing the spirit of the British Commonwealth, illustrting struggle that has ended in complete victory. Hall, (1993, p. 78) mentions that in Gothic sculpture a particular Virtue (there were quite a number) often treads down the vice belonging to it. I invite those who know more, to send me further comments on the correct interpretation of this engraving. And, is there any reason why the company would choose this vignette for it's stock ?
